The search for adventure begins as resourceful teams gather items related to their meeting or company. The activity and day ends in exciting presentations utilizing the found objects. The sky is the limit on the possibilities of this emotional team-bonding and team-building activity. Anywhere in the World! Sample Quests: Wine Distributors Scour the Napa Valley in Search of Valuable Information (and Team-Building) A vineyard hosted a special event for its distributors. Having surprised their distributors with a murder mystery created by Murder on the MenuŽ last year, they wanted something different but equally as creative for this annual event. The goal of the event was for the distributors to learn more about the vineyard's wines. Information which needed to be conveyed included that the vineyard is a quality oriented, family owned winery, that their winemaking processes are innovative, that they are an estate-based winery with a red-wine focus, that they have great packaging and press and that their wines are value priced. Janet A. Rudolph designed a special team-building scavenger hunt which also invited creativity from the visiting distributors. Dividing into four groups, the teams visited three (and some four) locations within two hours which included local ranches and wineries. Some of the items on the scavenger list included:
But the most important part of this scavenger hunt/learning experience was the team presentation. Returning home, each team set about collating their finds for the final presentation. Teams were judged on originality, relevancy, creativity and ingenuity on how they incorporated their items, drawings, photographs or experiences in their oral presentations. Several presentations were done in French, in song and in sonnet. The visual aids were alternately serious and hilarious. But the final success of the event was that each member of the team learned even more about the terrific wines, which as the distributors make them more valuable to the winery and better at their job. This was the goal of this team-building event.
The Archbishop's Mansion in Alamo Square, San Francisco, was the setting for a surprise 50th birthday party for a leading Silicon Valley entrepreneur. His devoted wife threw him a mystery weekend (she took over all the rooms at the exquisite Archbishop's Mansion) and wined and dined her guests as they became involved in "The Crime of Their Lives." One of the highlights of the weekend was a scavenger hunt based on the birthday boy's passion for growing tomatoes. The guests were all given a list of things to find, a time period to complete their tasks, and were limited only by their imaginations. Leila Laurence, former police dispatcher and records manager, worked on this event with Janet, lending her police expertise and avid love of mysteries to create one of the best scavenger hunt/mystery events ever. The teams returned not only with great and interesting items but they surprised even Janet with their ingenuity and creativity in presentation, items, and exuberance. This was a birthday experience no one will ever forget.
